The St Austell based Teddington Group of companies has been nominated as a finalist at the South West Skills Award, run by the Learning & Skills Council, for its recent programme of NVQ’s and other vocational qualifications for its workforce.

Personnel Manager Gail-lynne Milne commented, “We are thrilled to be nominated in the category ‘Train to Gain Medium Business of the Year’ This nomination reflects the hard work we have put in to training over recent years. We have had invaluable support from Train to Gain and Cornwall College in accessing funding and selecting appropriate training programmes for our employees. This has resulted in the majority of our electronics workforce achieving NVQ Level 2 in Manufacturing Operations and other employees across the business have achieved NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service. Some are now studying for NVQ Level 3.”

The training programme at Teddingtons reflects the current approach by the Company in adapting to the current competitive marketplace, where staff with recognised qualifications can only aid their ability to attract new custom. The Awards take place in Exeter on Thursday 26th April.

Teddington Appliance Controls Ltd have announced the acquisition of the design, manufacturing and marketing rights of Varcross Design & Developments, the successful Fan Flue manufacturer based in Plymouth.

The fan products have great synergy with the gas fire and cooker market, into which Teddington already supply control taps and other control devices and, as Teddington Electronics Ltd (another member of the Teddington Group of companies) were supplying the electronic control systems to Varcross, the acquisition made strategic sense.

Teddington is already the largest manufacturer of Safety Fire Valves for the oil fired appliance market with its famous KBB brand, and the compatibility of the fan products with this market is strong. The fan products allow for fires and cookers to be sited away from outside walls, and pull the combustion fumes to the outside through ducting.

The acquisition is expected to be complete at the end of April when Teddington will be handling sales of the products from its Cornwall site.
